Dr. Barbara Muhlbacher

Dr. Barbara Muhlbacher

Dr. Muhlbacher grew up in Switzerland and moved to the US after finishing high school. She graduated from Colorado State University as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. After practicing at a small animal hospital in Washington State for 3 years, Dr. Muhlbacher moved to the DC area in 2004, where she has been practicing veterinary medicine ever since. She lives in Takoma Park with her partner Joe, their dog Cyrus and 2 cats, Journey and Gizmo. In her free time, Dr. Muhlbacher enjoys many outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, biking, kayaking and skiing, and also likes to travel and explore different cultures.


Dr. Debbie Joseph

Dr. Debbie Joseph

Dr. Joseph was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. Joseph has practiced in several veterinary arenas which include emergency medicine, small animal medicine, shelter medicine, and lab animal medicine. She lives in Hanover, Maryland with her husband, daughter, and dog. In her free time, Dr. Joseph enjoys spending quality time with her family, baking, singing, crocheting, reading, watching movies, and listening to music.


Dr. Tanvir Advani

Dr. Tanvir Advani

Dr. Advani was born and raised in India. He came to the United States in 1989 shortly after graduating veterinary medicine from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in Hyderabad, India. He worked at a prominent 24 hour small animal hospital in Washington DC for 9 years managing the technical staff and diagnostic services. In 1999, he launched Techpet Veterinary Laboratory, a local diagnostic lab that served the Washington DC metro area for 13 successful years. Dr. Advani believes in the business model that values people and personal relationships as the driving force behind the success of an organization. He lives in Kensington, has four children and a German shepherd named Heidi. He enjoys gardening, travel, music and watching movies on his awesome home theater!


Nikki Cotton

Mrs. Cotton

Nikki Cotton is a native Washingtonian. She was educated through the DC Public School System. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in Psychology and BA in Sociology. She has come full circle in her career. Starting with a passion for animals through working at National Institutes of Health and the National Zoo at a young age. She transitioned that love and passion to our children through working in DCPS for over 10 years. All the while caring for various pets which include iguanas, hamsters, fish and several cats and dogs. Though she began working with children, her love for animals never waned. She still a lives in DC with her husband and 8 year old daughter.


Lori Smith

Lori Smith

Lori Smith was born and raised in Washington, DC. Under the direction of her aunt, she began working with animals at her veterinary practice at the young age of twelve. During her senior year of high school, she gained experience with various species of animals by working in a pet store. While attending UNC-Wilmington obtaining a bachelors degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in Biology, she worked as a veterinary technician at an area hospital. Upon returning home after college, she worked as a veterinary technician for a practice in Gaithersburg, MD. For the last ten years, she worked as a laboratory technician in veterinary hospitals in Washington, DC. She still occasionally goes on house calls with her aunt’s practice and enjoys pet-sitting for several clients. In her spare time she enjoys baking and decorating cakes and other tasty desserts.


Nina Whiting

Nina Whiting has grown up in the Wheaton/ Silver Spring area. She is currently transitioning to the University of Maryland to pursue a degree in Biology with plans to get into animal research. She has always had a passion for animals and has had a variety of pets including hamsters, geckos, a rabbit, rats and currently lives with her two cats Jack and Nemo and two dogs Juneau and Yoshi. In her spare time Nina trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at a local academy, spends lots of time with her dogs, enjoys hiking and tries teach herself the violin. Nina has worked with animals in both a hospital and volunteer setting since she was 13.
